Dictionary definition: Currently, there is no dictionary listing for the word Boxster, however, it could come under the category roadster. This translates to an open topped automobile, generally with a single seat in the front for one to two people and a small compartment in the back usually for luggage or parcel space. I believe that's this is a 1950's defined explanation, as in modern times, the single seat is normally split into two front seats with a seat in the back, that can accommodate more than just baggage. At a squeeze, you could probably fit two smaller people in.

Porsche Boxster

In late 1996, the high quality prestige sports car manufacturer introduced their 1997 model Porsche Boxster. Internally, and during production, it was known as the 986 or 987. Designed to replace the aging 968, it was the least powerful and cheapest model performance car on general sale from Porsche. Its sole purpose was to try and increase flagging sales for the manufacturing giant, so it was priced to try and entice new buyers to the marquee. I first travelled in one in mid 1997, when one of my colleagues had travelled back from Germany to receive his keys and pick his up from the factory. Compared to other models out of Stuttgart, I thought it was lacking in power and style compared to the vehicles from other models from Porsche. It was powered by a flat six 2.5 litre engine, boasting 201 brake horse powers. It was mid engined compared to the rear mounted engines of the 911 and other models. Slow and sluggish compared to other models, it began to earn the name, Poor man's Porsche. Boxster did have room for improvement, both in styling and performance. Fast forward almost ten years, and vast improvements have been made. In certain circles, dim witted people still refer to it as the poor mans version, it is now greatly improved, with slight alterations to the bodywork, making it look as stylish as it should and tweaks and changes under the bonnet giving more power.
